Full Reports
Full reports are documents produced by the national consultants responsible for the plant breeding and related biotechnology capacity (PBBC) survey in their countries or regions.
The reports contain various chapters, including a brief description on the past and current agricultural situation of the country together with the description of the past and current situation of the national agricultural research system (both private and public). The plant breeding sector is analysed in the context of this agricultural research system. An analysis of each institution's capacity focussing on the strongest and weakest components of the different plant breeding programmes is provided. An overall assessment of the national plant breeding and related biotechnology capacity is provided through a question by question combined analysis using data from all institutions and with indications on the national strengths and weaknesses on the use of plant genetic resources.
Finally, based on the consultant's knowledge and the results of the survey, a section is provided with recommendations to strengthen the national capacity to use plant genetic resources, including an indication on how the recommendations can be implemented.
Country Briefs
The purpose of this brief is to summarize the current status of the National Agricultural Research System (NARS) in countries, with particular emphasis on plant breeding and related agricultural biotechnology. Knowing the history of the NARS' development and its current status will allow the identification of potential areas and types of intervention. The intention is also to outline options for strengthening national capacity to use plant genetic resources.
The information presented in these documents comes from the PBBC surveys conducted in the various countries. This information is sometimes supplemented with other sources.
